[origin: US4741487A] A winding core and a wound product package to be formed thereon are rotatably mounted on a core bearing or support arrangement. A conveyor defining a product conveying path tangentially delivers the arriving imbricated formation to the winding core or to the wound product package formed thereon. The winding core or the wound product package formed thereon, as the case may be, is driven at a circumferential speed which substantially corresponds to the conveying speed of the product conveying path. At least one pair of driven friction wheels is positioned such that it does not drive the winding core or the wound product package formed thereon, as the case may be, at its outermost circumference or peripheral surface. To that end the at least one pair of driven friction wheels positionally adjustably engage at the flat lateral sides or end faces of the winding core or at the flat lateral sides or end faces of the wound product package wound thereon in the vicinity of the circumference thereof at mutually axially opposite situated locations.

Auf einer Lageranordnung (26) ist ein Wickelkern (22) mit einem darauf sich bildenden Wickel (23) drehbar gelagert. Eine Förderbahn (11) führt den anfallenden Schuppenstrom tangential an den Wickelkern (22) bzw. an den sich bildenden Wickel (23) heran. Der Wickelkern (22) bzw. der sich bildende Wickel (23) ist mit einer Umfangsgeschwindigkeit angetrieben, die etwa der Fördergeschwindigkeit der Förderbahn (11) entspricht. Um dem Wickelkern (22) bzw. dem sich bildenden Wickel (23) den Antrieb nicht am äussersten Umfang zu übertragen, ist mindestens ein Paar angetriebener Reibräder (53, 54) vorgesehen, die nachführbar an den ebenen Stirnseiten (24) des Wickelkernes (22) bzw. an jenen des Wickels (23) im Bereich dessen Umfanges an einander axial gegenüberliegenden Stellen angreifen.
