[origin: EP0234677A1] In a clamping device suitable for clamping irregular objects between jaws (1090) rotatably mounted on a fixed jowl (1103) and a moveable jowl (1104), the jaws which have an arcuate rear face and the jowls which have a complementary arcuate face against which the rear face of the jaw is in slidable contact, are maintained in contact by a projection in one engaging in an arcuate slot (1092) in the other. In a quick acting and lockable screw-threaded rod drive for the movable jowl (1104), the thread on the rod and a section of complementary thread on the jowl can be disengaged for quick action or engaged for normal drive and for locking the rod to the jowl. Clamping devices providing machine seats have alternative sets of mounting holes or pivoting support plates to facilitate seating of machines in horizontal or vertical positions.
