A coupling for drill rods with power transmission, particularly for diamond drill bits with tubular shank and pipe-thread connecting member, for example for industrial-diamond core drill bits for wet and/or dry cutting, wherein a first coupling member is provided, at one end, with an extension which can be coupled to a second coupling member, wherein adjacent parts of extension and second coupling member lie flat against one another, and wherein on the one hand projections and on the other hand depressions, grooves or recesses, which interengage during the coupling, are provided in the parts facing one another for the coupling, characterised in that the surfaces facing one another comprise clamping surfaces (9, 14) which are arranged perpendicular to the axis of the drill rod (2), that the clamping surfaces (9, 14) are so constructed and dimensioned that they can be pressed flat against one another during the coupling, and that in order to achieve the pressing effect, a clamping ring (25) is provided which is rotatably mounted, by means of a screw connection, on the coupling member (3) carrying the projections (11), one end face (14) of the clamping ring (25) forming the clamping surface (14).
