1. Use of workpieces made of austenitic steel in cryogenics, it being necessary for the workpieces to have a reduced thermal conductivity and at the same time increased strength, provided, however, that the workpieces have been plastically deformed below their martensite transformation temperature.

In der Tieftemperaturtechnik sollen solche Konstruktionsteile, die Komponenten mit unterschiedlichen Temperaturniveaus miteinander verbinden, eine möglichst geringe Wärmeleitfähigkeit besitzen. Bei Konstrucktionsteilen aus austenitschem Stahl wird die Wärmeleitfähigkeit verringert, indem sie unterhalb ihrer Martensitumwandlungs-temperatur plastisch verformt werden. Die Verformung erfolgt vorzugsweise in einem Bad aus flüssigem Stickstoff.
