Abstract (en)
Microphone for use with a cymbal, gong or other resonant percussion instrument has at least one strip (30) of piezoelectric sheet secured to the instrument surface (10) with the strip axis radially of the instrument and electrodes on the strip major surfaces. There are pref. 6-12 strips located around the instrument surface at irregular angular spacings. Each strip is pref. of polarised polyvinylidenefluoride and 3.5mm wide with a circumferentially extending part at the outer end to form an L-shaped transducer. There may be a further strip extending circumferentially around the outer part of the instrument and of a length approximating a whole number of wavelengths of vibration propagating circumferentially in the outer part.
