[origin: WO8702451A1] Method and apparatus for ion projection electrographic imaging using a self-limiting discharge ion source (10). A pool of ions is generated by a high voltage time-varying potential (17) between two electrodes (14 and 18) separated by a solid dielectric (16); ions are extracted by means of an electrical field between one of the electrodes and a further electrode member (160). An apertured ion-modulating plate (20) is interposed between the ion source (10) and an image receptor surface (150) in order to modulate the cross-section of ion flow, thereby forming a desired electrographic image. This device enjoys the advantages of high print uniformity, simplicity of construction, and reliable, durable operation.

Procédé et appareil pour l'imagerie électrographique par projection d'ions, faisant appel à une source d'ions de décharge à auto-limitation (10). Une accumulation d'ions est créée par un potentiel (17) de haute tension qui varie avec le temps entre deux électrodes (14 et 18) séparées par un diélectrique plein (16); on extrait des ions au moyen d'un champ électrique situé entre une des électrodes et un élément d'électrode (160) situé plus loin. Une plaque ajourée (20) pour la modulation des ions est intercalée entre la source d'ions (10) et une surface (150) de réception d'images pour moduler la section du flux d'ions, formant ainsi une image électrographique voulue. Ce dispositif présente les avantages d'une grande uniformité d'impression, une simplicité de construction et un fonctionnement sûr et durable.
