[origin: EP0243728A2] In a safety system for a printing machine which is provided with at least one drive and braking mechanism and an electronic control facility, the electronic control facility embraces power stages, which permit electronic braking of the drive mechanism, and a monitoring circuit into which nominal and actual values of the rotational speed of the drive mechanism can be fed and which activates the braking mechanism if an unacceptably high difference exists between the nominal and actual values. The accelerations and decelerations necessary during operation of the printing machine are achieved by corresponding control of the drive mechanism. <IMAGE>
