The device has a glue container, a glue removal cylinder, a glue application device, interacting with the removal cylinder, and conveying means for transporting, positioning and holding the book blocks to be glued. The method uses an elastically deformable pad as a glue application element instead of the profile or hollow cylinders used hitherto in order to achieve a complete and even application of glue to the backs of book blocks, even at their edges and corners, in particular the end faces, by optimum snug fit of the glue application element. <IMAGE>

Es wird eine Vorrichtung zum Beleimen von Buchblockrücken mit einem Leimbehälter (14), einer Leimschöpfwalze (22), einer mit der Schöpfwalze zusammenwirkenden Leimauftragseinrichtung und mit Fördermitteln zum Transportieren, Positionieren und Halten der zu beleimenden Buchblöcke (11) sowie ein Verfahren vorgeschlagen, wobei ein elastisch verformbares Kissen (28) als Leimauftragselement anstelle bisher verwendeter Profil- oder Hohlwalzen verwendet wird, um eine vollständige und gleichmäßige Beleimung der Buchblockrücken, auch an deren Kanten und Ecken, insbesondere der Stirnseiten, durch eine optimale Schmiegung des Leimauftragselements zu erreichen.
