[origin: WO8702885A1] An ankle support with an underliner having multi-directional stretch which fits over the wearer's foot in the manner of a sock and extends to a point above the ankle. A non-stretch lateral strap (50) or (60) is secured to the underliner at a point below the ankle joint and extends upwardly to the top of the underliner, where it is inelastically secured, with provision being made for adjustment of its tension. A non-stretch medial strap (70) is inelastically connected to the lateral strap therebelow. The medial strap (70) extends underneath the foot and up the leg near the top of the underliner, with provision being made for adjustment of its tension. The medial strap thereby supports the wearer's arch and, in combination with the lateral strap, supports the ligaments of the ankle joint and provides a "heel lock", to limit and balance the lateral movement of the ankle joint.

Chevillère munie d'une sous-épaisseur présentant des caractéristiques d'élasticité multidirectionnelle s'adaptant sur le pied d'un utilisateur à la manière d'une chaussette et s'étendant jusqu'à un point situé au-dessus de la cheville. Une sangle latérale non extensible (50 ou 60) est fixée à ladite sous-épaisseur à un point situé sous l'articulation de la cheville et s'étend vers le haut jusqu'au sommet de la sous-épaisseur, où ladite sangle est fixée de manière non élastique, des moyens de réglage de sa tension étant également prévus. Une sangle médiane non extensible (70) est fixée de manière non élastique à la sangle latérale située au-dessous d'elle. La sangle médiane (70) s'étend sous le pied et monte vers la jambe jusqu'à un point proche du sommet de la sous-épaisseur, des moyens de réglage de sa tension étant également prévus. La sangle médiane soutient ainsi la cambrure du pied de l'utilisateur et, combinée avec la sangle latérale, soutient les ligaments de l'articulation de la cheville et permet une immobilisation du talon afin de limiter et d'équilibrer le mouvement latéral de l'articulation de la cheville.
