In a drum washing machine 4 having a washing drum, which is driven more slowly during a wetting phase than during a washing phase, scoop devices 11, 12, 20, 27, 31 are arranged on the drum circumference and constructed in such a way that they pick up the scooped water during the wetting phase in a position below the axis 15 of rotation of the drum and discharge it into the interior of the drum in a position above the axis of rotation of the drum. In einer Trommelwaschmaschine 4 mit einer während einer Benetzungsphase langsamer als während einer Reinigungsphase angetriebenen Wäschetrommel sind am Trommelumfang Schöpfvorrichtungen 11,12,20,27,31 angeordnet und o ausgebildet, daß sie während der Benetzungsphase das geschöpfte Wasser in einer Position unterhalb der Trommel-Drehachse 15 in sich aufnehmen und in einer Position oberhalb der Trommel-Drehachse ins Trommelinnere abgeben. Dabei wird die Wäsche während der Benetzungsphase beregnet.
