[origin: EP0245850A2] The invention relates to a refuse collecting vehicle, having a forward-control chassis (2) containing a drive unit (9) and on which there is arranged, behind a sunken cab (8), a refuse filling and compressing means (11), and behind that a refuse collecting container (10), the refuse filling and compressing means being assigned a lifting/tilting mechanism (11). In known refuse collecting vehicles of this type, a special chassis is used which is very expensive and has an undesirably large wheelbase. The invention provides, on the other hand, that the chassis provided be a forward-control chassis (2) of a conventional design in which the drive unit (9) projects behind the cab (8) upwardly beyond the chassis frame (7), that the chassis frame (7) be mounted lower compared with the chassis frame of conventional design, and that the refuse filling and compressing means (11) be built over the part of the drive unit which projects beyond the chassis frame. <IMAGE>
