[origin: WO8703316A1] Tamping tools (1, 12, 17) for mounting in a ballast tamping apparatus such as the rail-mounted Canron, Plasser and Jackson ballast tamping machines designed for tamping ballast around railroad cross-ties must be replaced periodically due to wear. Such replacement operations often require removal of the tamping tool from the machine. The tamping tools of the present invention each include a shaft (2, 13, 18) adapted for mounting on a reciprocating mechanism in a respective ballast tamping machine, a shaped shank (6) extending from the shaft, a weld ring (22) or nut (31) seated on the shank and welded to receive the shaped shank, with the tool foot welded to the weld ring or nut for easy replacement in the field. A blade (51, 55) is provided at the extending end of the tool foot in offset relationship for contacting and tamping the ballast and in a first embodiment the blade is formed integrally with the foot, while in a second embodiment the blade (55) is bolted to the tool foot.

De telles opérations de remplacement impliquent souvent qu'il faut démonter l'outil de damage de la machine. Les outils de damage de la présente invention comprennent chacun un arbre (2, 13, 18) conçu pour être monté sur un mécanisme à mouvement alternatif dans une machine de damage du ballast correspondant, une tige allongée (6), s'étendant à partir de l'arbre, et une rondelle (22) ou un écrou (31) de soudure soudé sur l'arbre et calé pour recevoir la tige profilée, le pied de l'outil étant soudé à la rondelle ou à l'écrou afin de permettre aisément son remplacement sur le lieu de travail.
