[origin: EP0246488A2] In order to join together veneer strips even of the smallest thicknesses more rapidly, more reliably and in a manner exhibiting greater quality, an apparatus and a method are provided, wherein interfitting tooth profiles are punched so as to be positive and sharp-edged at each of the veneer strip ends to be joined together, the toothed veneer strip ends being deflected, using an adhesive-tape gripper, from the punching plane to a fastening table arranged parallel to the punching plane for the purpose of sliding into one another, an adhesive tape then being placed by the adhesive-tape gripper over the veneer strip ends slid into one another at an angle and the adhesive tape together with the veneer strip ends engaging into one another then being pressed evenly on the fastening table. <IMAGE>
