Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0247594A2] Unloading takes place from the water side. The residual load of liquid product and/or the liquid contaminants and/or emulsions are pumped out of a storage tank, container or loading space to be unloaded; the liquid product is held in intermediate storage after any separation of the liquid contaminants; the water is separated from the liquid contaminants and/or emulsions; and the contaminants and oils are held in intermediate storage. The storage tank, container or loading space is cleaned with a liquid cleaning agent. The residues are separated from the liquid cleaning agent and are held in intermediate storage, and the sorted and intermediately stored products, contaminants, oils and residues are transported by water to an installation for recycling or their removal. To extinguish the fires, water or a mixture of water and an inert gas for producing an atmosphere extinguishing the fire is sprayed onto the storage tank, in the course of which inert gas for producing a subcritical mixture of air and inert gas or for producing an inert-gas atmosphere is pumped via the loading/extinguishing riser into the interior of the burning storage tank or via hose connections into (onto) the ship. <IMAGE>
