[origin: WO8703460A1] A folding umbrella (12) has a handle storage compartment (22). The compartment is generally cylindrical and is to receive the central supporting shaft (14) and the mounted folding umbrella mechanism. The shaft is connected to a seat (24) which is slidably supported within the cylindrical housing for movement between axial positions, being locked in the outermost extended position by a sping activated button (26) which is received within an opening (22e) of the housing. Attached to the other end of the shaft is a cap (34) which serves as a grip and as a cover for closing the open end of the cylindrical housing. The cap can be gripped for withdrawing the umbrella mechanism from the housing and, when retracted, the cap mates with the open end of the housing to provide a water resistant seal preventing the escape of water on the umbrella from the housing.

Un parapluie pliable (2) possède un compartiment de rangement (22) faisant office de poignée. Ce compartiment est généralement cylindrique et contient une tige centrale de support (14) et le mécanisme d'articulation du parapluie. La tige est reliée à un siège (24) maintenu à l'intérieur de l'enceinte cylindrique de manière à pouvoir coulisser entre des positions axiales, en étant verrouillée en position de déploiement par un bouton (26) à ressort qui est logé dans une ouverture (22e) de l'enceinte. Un capuchon (34) est fixé sur l'autre extrémité de la tige et sert de poignée et de couvercle de fermeture de l'extrémité ouverte de l'enceinte cylindrique. Le capuchon peut être saisi pour retirer le mécanisme du parapluie de l'enceinte et, lorsque le parapluie est replié, le capuchon s'adapte sur l'extrémité ouverte de l'enceinte pour former un joint inperméable empêchant l'eau s'égoutant du parapluie de sortir de l'enceinte.
