A mobile ballast preparing machine or the like, comprising an at least two-axle chassis (1) receiving a crusher (2), a screening device (3) and a conveyor (4) leading from the crusher outlet to the screen inlet, characterised in that the chassis (1) consists of two parts (1a, 1b) which are releasably interlockable between the front and rear axles (5b, 5a), in that the crusher (2), screening device (3) and conveyor (4) are disposed on the one chassis part (1a), preferably the rear part, which bears support feet (8) in the region of the interlock end and in that the conveyor (4) and screening device (3) are mounted on a jib (9) which projects beyond the interlock end towards the other, preferably the front, chassis part (1b).
