A sheet feeder comprising stationary front abutments (6) associated with a pile (1), holders (30), mounted on a longitudinal guideway (29) extending transversely in relation to the direction of conveyance, for side guides (29) able to be set to the side edges of the pile, and preferably side blowing nozzles (28), and a suction head (12) mounted on a longitudinal guideway (16) extending in the direction of conveyance and able to be set on the guideway in accordance with the position of the rear edge of the pile, the adjustable members being able to be set by means of associated servo motors (17 and, respectively, 32), which are able to be operated by means of a computer (60) in accordance with sheet size input data thereto and are in the form of drive motors each with a lead screw (18 and, respectively, 31) supported in the axial direction on the frame of the feeder, and in threaded engagement with the respective device to be set, characterized in that a feedboard (38) receiving a sheet taken from the pile is provided, on which pinch rolls (42) cooperating with circulating conveying tapes (41) are provided, the respectively adjacently placed pinch rolls (42), whose distance from front guides (43) arranged at the front end of the feedboard (38) may be adjusted in accordance with the sheet size length, are mounted on a common carrier (44), and the pinch roll carrier (44) placed one behind the other, make threaded engagement with sections (which have helix angles graded from the front to the rear) of a lead screw (46) associated with the pinch rolls (42) and able to be driven by means of an associated servo motor (50).
