[origin: WO8703709A1] An electrophotographic reproduction apparatus and method for reproducing an original document sheet that includes a continuous tone pictorial information area and a line-type information area. Rather than reproducing the entire document sheet with screening of both types of information, means are provided for selectively screening only the pictorial information area on the reproduction. The means of one preferred embodiment comprises a programmable illumination source (80, 81) that is programmed through inputs by the operator using a digitizing tablet (52) to selectively image portions of a screen onto a charged photoconductive web prior to development of the electrostatic image formed on the web so that only the area on the web receiving the pictorial image is exposed to the screen. In another embodiment the programmable illumination source, such as LED's modulates the portion of the image frame receiving an optical exposure of the pictorial information with a screen type exposure so that the pictorial information only is reproduced with a screen pattern. In still another embodiment a sensor automatically senses and determines the image portions to be selectively screened.

Appareil et procédé de reproduction électrophotographique pour reproduire une feuille d'un original qui comporte une zone d'image à tons continus et une zone d'information en lignes. Au lieu de reproduire la feuille entière du document avec des trames pour les deux types d'information, on prévoit des moyens pour l'utilisation sélective de trames uniquement pour la zone d'information d'image proprement dite sur la reproduction. Selon un mode de réalisation préféré, le moyen est constitué d'une source d'éclairage programmable (80, 81), qui est programmée à travers des entrées par l'opérateur qui utilise un tableau de numérisation (52) afin de reproduire sélectivement des parties d'image d'une trame sur une bande photoconductrice chargée avant le développement de l'image électrostatique formée sur la bande, de sorte que seule la zone de la bande recevant l'image proprement dite est exposée à la trame. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, la source d'éclairage programmable, comme par exemple des diodes électroluminescentes, module la partie de la séquence d'image qui reçoit une exposition optique des informations d'image avec une exposition du type à trame de sorte que seules les informations d'image proprement dites sont reproduites avec un dessin de trame. Dans encore un autre mode de réalisation, un capteur détecte et détermine automatiquement les parties d'image à réaliser sélectivement sous forme de reproduction à trames.
