[origin: US4779891A] The safety ski binding comprises a base plate on which a spring housing for a release spring is mounted for displacement transversely on the longitudinal direction of the ski. Mounted in the spring housing are two hinged jaws laterally engaging a ski boot and rotatably supported about vertical axes. For improving the retention of the ski boot and for facilitating the lateral release in the case of a rearward torsion fall, a U-shaped pivot member is mounted on a transverse axial member in the spring housing and supports a further transverse axial member supporting a catch lever subjected to the action of the release spring to be engaged with a nose of a clamp retainer rotatably mounted about another transverse axial member, which suppports a sole clamp.

Diese Sicherheitsskibindung besitzt eine Grundplatte (1), an der ein Federgehäuse (13) für eine Auslösefeder (14) quer zur Skilängsrichtung bewegbar gelagert ist. Im Federgehäuse (13) sind zwei Schwenkbacken (11) angeordnet, welche am Schuh seitlich anliegen und auf senkrechten Achsen (12) drehbar gelagert sind. Um das Festhalten des Schuhs zu verbessern und seine seitliche Freigabe bei einem Rückwärtsdrehsturz zu erleichtern, sieht die Erfindung vor, daß im Federgehäuse (13) auf einer Querachse (18) eine U-förmige Schwinge (19) schwenkbar gelagert ist, welche auf einer weiteren Querachse (20) einen Rasthebel (21) trägt, der von der Auslösefeder (14) beaufschlagt wird und der sich an einer Nase (17a) eines um eine zusätzliche Querachse (16) schwenkbaren, einen Sohlenniederhalter (23) tragenden Niederhalters (17) abstützt.
