[origin: EP0259210A1] Control for positioning flat objects, especially metal sheets, at the input of a processing unit as, for example, a machine for coating and/or printing the said sheets. According to an important characteristic of the invention, two sensors (35a, 35b) are disposed at the input of the machine in such a way as to be uncovered at the same time by the rear edge (22b) of the sheet (22) when the latter is engaged beneath the transfer cylinder (12); a crosswise setting of the sheet results in a certain number of pulses supplied by the pulse generator (40) between the signals emitted by the two sensors and the counting of these pulses makes it possible to determine whether the sheet should be used or be rejected.
