Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0259792A1] Structural elements exposed to high thermal stresses are coated with an amorphous hydrogen-containing carbon layer which is provided as protection against brief irradiation by a radiation power of up to 120 MW/m<2> and is applied for this purpose to the structural element consisting of a material of high thermal conductivity. In an advantageous embodiment of the process of the invention, steps for purifying the surface to be coated are employed, this surface being exposed to a hydrogen stream which contains atoms and/or ions of hydrogen.
