Sports boot, in particular ski boot (1), having an arrangement for holding fast the foot of the wearer, which arrangement has a strap-shaped retention element (8, 13), intended to extend over the foot of the wearer and having engagement notches (15) arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction, at its free end (13), as well as means for tightening and a non-return arrangement, fitted to the boot, (1) and releasable from the outside of the boot (1), for locking the retention element (8, 13), characterized in that the means for tightening have a tightening mechanism (16) having a tightening lever (18) which can be swivelled back and forth about a spindle (19) and in which a slide (22) is guided which has toothing (21) which, for the stepwise tightening of the retention element (8, 13), can be brought into engagement with the engagement notches (15) of the latter, and which slide can be forced back against a spring force (23) during the return movement (B) of the tightening lever (18).
