Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0260112A2] An improved crane (10) is disclosed which can be reconfigured from a lifting configuration to a stowed configuration. In the stowed configuration, the overall height of the crane (10) is much reduced to permit the crane to be moved under overhead obstructions and also lower the center of gravity of the crane to increase stability. A backleg (30) of the crane provides a novel tension bearing capability where tubes of varying diameter are telescoped within each other. The backleg can be telescoped to a minimum length limited by contact between interior reinforcing rings (118) and stop blocks (122) and telescoped to a maximum length, limited by contacts between annular stop rings (124, 126) mounted on the telescoped tubes.
