[origin: EP0260604A2] An agitator mill has a separating device (36), which allows treated grist (16) to emerge from a milling chamber (12), but retains grinding medium (14). The separating device (36) is mounted on a rotary- drivable tubular section (32) which is open at one end (42) for an axial inflow of grist (16) and grinding medium (14). The inner wall (40) of the tubular section (32) widens conically and generates an enveloping flow (46) which in the tubular section (32) extends around the central axial inflow (44) of grinding medium (14) and grist (16), runs in the opposite direction to the latter and consists predominantly of grinding medium (14). On the same axis as the rotary- drivable tubular section (32) is a grinding medium inlet (56) which is connected to a storage vessel (60) filled with grinding medium (14). The rotating tubular section (32) propels grinding medium (14) out of the grinding medium inlet (56) into the milling chamber (12). <IMAGE>
