Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0261267A1] The bar lock for mounting in one or two rectangular perforations (32, 34), preferably in the tilting space of sheet-metal cabinet doors, has a lock (16) with a follower (64) which carries a pinion (62) and is held rotatably in a follower and rod bearing (60) and which is rotatable by means of an actuating device, such as a handle, pivoting lever, socket wrench or the like, guided outwards through the door leaf (12). It also has at least one rod (18) which extends parallel to the door edge, if appropriate in the tilting space (10), possesses a toothing or perforation (66) for the engagement of the pinion (62) in the region of the lock (16) and is mounted displaceably in this region and at at least one point outside the lock (16) in the door leaf (12). Locking devices are attached to the door frame and to the rod (18) and come into engagement with one another during the displacement of the rod (18). According to the invention, the rod (or rods) (18) and the follower and rod bearing (60) guiding these rods (18) in the region of the lock (16) are respectively made symmetrical or double-symmetrical in such a way that, without the removal of the pinion (62), the bar lock can be used both for doors opening to the right and for those opening to the left, with any selectable opening direction of rotation of the lock-actuating device, simply by reversing or interchanging the rod or rods (18) and/or reversing the lock (16). <IMAGE>
