Abstract (en)
An electrical connector for terminating a low current multi-wire electrical cord (12) comprises a one-piece dielectric housing (10, 16) having a central wire-receiving aperture (32) with a plurality of terminal-receiving slots (54) extending between the aperture (32) and a first exterior surface of the connector and individual terminals (14) positioned within the slots for movement toward the aperture (32). The connector is particularly characterised by a recess (66) associated with each slot (54) and extending from the aperture (32) toward the exterior surface of the connector opposite the first exterior surface to provide a somewhat L-shaped wire-receiving cavity. The terminals (14) have a wire-engaging portion (80) adapted to pass through the longitudinal plane of the aperture (32) and into the recess (66) for bending the wire (48) out of the plane of the aperture (32) and into the recess (66), whereby the wire (48) is retained in the cavity, the wire-engaging portion (80) including means (78) for making electrical contact with the wire (48).
