[origin: EP0261298A2] The invention relates to a flat key profile for a cylinder lock key, a profile cross-section grid having lines in which longitudinal grooves are selectively made in the key material. The invention is primarily characterised in that in each of the lines there is a longitudinal groove arrangement which corresponds to one of the following three groove types: A: a groove (31) starting from the left-hand flat side of the key, the depth of the groove extending at least to the longitudinal mid-plane (30) of the key and preferably beyond this; B: a groove (32) starting from the right-hand flat side of the key, the depth of the groove extending at least to the longitudinal mid-plane (30) of the key and preferably beyond this; C: a groove (30) on each of the left-hand and right-hand flat sides of the key, the depth of the individual grooves extending towards the longitudinal mid-plane (30) of the key, leaving a material thickness sufficient for the key strength between the grooves and, after the subsequent fashioning of a groove according to types A or B, a material thickness not sufficient for the key strength between the grooves. <IMAGE>
