[origin: EP0263065A2] A flat core (1) made of elastic material, for example plastic foam, is provided with continuous holes (2). Support beads (3) are placed loosely in these openings (2) and the latter are closed by elastic outer layers (4) which are bonded on on both sides. Thus a mattress is obtained in a simple manner which has a relatively large number of firm support bodies located in a central zone and soft elastic outer layers. On the outside, the mattress corresponds to a customary mattress and can correspondingly be used as any customary mattress. However, with the inserted support bodies, it causes an uneven, punctiform support of a person lying on the mattress with locally increased pressure, which brings about a desired massage effect and, additionally, due to a piston effect favours forced ventilation towards the top. <IMAGE>
