[origin: EP0263293A1] An arc quenching device (10) in an electrical contactor is arranged opposite a contact point with two contact pieces, between which an arc ignites when the contact point is opened. This arc is commutated onto arc conducting rails and runs from there into a quenching chamber which holds the quenching device (10). The latter is formed from a quenching plate stack (12) which is held by lateral wall sections (16) and whose individual quenching plates (20) are inserted in slots (28) in a rearward wall section (14). The webs (30) located between the slots in this case are used as spacers for the quenching plates (20). <IMAGE>
