A polypeptide possessing the basic structure of beta -hANP but lacking the 1 to 6 and 1' to 6' amino acid sequences, i.e. Ser-Leu-Arg-Arg-Ser-Ser, and the salts thereof, useful for the treatment of hypertensions, prepared by bimolecular condensation of alpha -hANP(7-28) at the 7 and 23' cysteines, and at the 7' and 23 cysteines, respectively, with disulfide bonds.
