Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0268030A2] In a potentiometer, for reliability reasons it is necessary for the contact member, which interacts with the resistance track and can be driven by an operating member, to be supported such that it cannot rotate with respect to the resistance track. In order that the operating member can be rotated with respect to the contact member, known potentiometers have a joint between the contact member and the operating member. Such a joint is costly to manufacture. <??>In order to permit a rotational movement between the contact member and the operating member, without a joint having to be provided between these two parts, a permanent magnet (10) is arranged on the operating member, as shown in Fig. 1, which permanent magnet (10) interacts with a part (22) of the contact member (15, 16, 22) consisting of a ferro-magnetic material. In the case of a shifting movement of the operating member, the contact member (15, 16, 22) is driven by magnetic force without contact, i.e. is driven along the resistance track. <IMAGE>
