[origin: EP0268189A2] A method and an apparatus for straightening weft yarns in fabrics are described. In these, a continuous fabric web is tensioned over a specific length portion with the force increasing in the direction of run, essentially in the weft direction, between two tensioning drums which are located at the edge and which are moveable independently of one another in such a way that differing forces occurring during a skewed draft and exerted on the tensioning means in the direction of run can be compensated so that the draft is eliminated. It is proposed to drive the tensioning means in such a suitable way that the frictional forces necessarily occurring do not have to be overcome by means of pull-off forces in the fabric web, so that no curved drafts occur. <IMAGE>
