Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0269010A2] The stitching head (1) for a wire stitching machine contains a guiding device (7), held next to the material to be stitched, for a staple guide (9) which is guided longitudinally displaceably in the device and, when driving in the staple (3) in its working stroke, is movable towards the material to be stitched (2) and subsequently, in its idle stroke, is movable away from it. Arranged longitudinally displaceably in the staple guide (9) is the staple driver (18) which, in order to expel the staple (3) held by the staple guide (9) and guided in the latter and in order to drive the staple (3) into the material to be stitched (2), is likewise movable towards the material to be stitched (2) in its working stroke and subsequently movable away from the material to be stitched (2) in the idle stroke. A driving device (45,48) having a crank mechanism (33) produces the synchronised movements of the staple guide (9) and of the staple driver (18), necessary for driving in the staple (3). In order that the staple is not expelled from the staple guide (9) prematurely, or before the staple guide (9) is sufficiently close to the material to be stitched (2), the crank mechanism (46) contains, in its mechanism trains, in order to actuate the staple guide (9) and/or the staple driver (18), a superposition mechanism (54,56) which allows the staple guide (9), at the beginning of its working stroke, to advance towards the material to be stitched (2) ahead of the staple driver (18). <IMAGE>
