Abstract (en)

[origin: WO8707856A1] In the casting process, the material (8) of the mold (7) is compacted in a region (12) surrounding the runner gate (10) and a depression (13) with a level surface (14) is provided in this region. The level or profiled lower surface (6) of the pouring lip (2) located at the base of the ingot mould (1) is placed in contact, at an adjustable pressure, with the upper surface (14) of the depression (13) in the mould material region (12). The mould (7) is filled with molten metal at a pressure which decreases until completion of casting. The outlet (5) at the base of the ingot mould (1) is closed just before the end of complete filling of the mould, and as a result the volume of metal located in the outlet bore (3) under the closable outlet (5) in the floor can flow into the gate (11) and into the depression (13) in the mold (7). In this way, the solidification of the molten metal over the gate (11) is avoided and the reduced quantity of molten metal used per mold improves the economy of the casting process.
