[origin: EP0271634A1] A drum-type counter mechanism is described in which, when a new combination of numbers is set, it is not possible to adjust the numbers by part-steps and, when multiples of tens are transferred in one direction, a step-shaped chaining together of the numbers is not possible. This is ensured by the following constructional criteria - all meshing teeth of the drum-type counter mechanism are evolvent toothed, - both number drums (3) of higher digits and switching drums (5) alternately exhibit teeth having two different pitches which are specially shaped for the purpose and, in particular, provide for a jolt-free sequence of the transfer of tens, - a carrier device (7) exhibits an advance of the magnitude of the mean tolerance in the transfer of tens compared with the number position on the number drum (3). <IMAGE>
