The supporting structure is characterised essentially in that it comprises a stack of layers 15 of loose materials, a flexible casing 16 surrounding each layer, a retaining wall 10 located along the edges 18 of these layers 15 at some distance from these edges to provide a space 20, the wall having a height greater than that of the stack so as to receive a continuous layer 31 arranged on the stack, and a retaining plate covering the space 20. The supporting structure is advantageously used particularly for making roads or the like, for example on a hillside or with steep slopes.
