[origin: US4821693A] A camshaft for an internal combustion engine which is arranged in bearings that are formed by a cylinder head and a camshaft bearing housing. The camshaft is secured either at the cylinder head or at the camshaft bearing housing by means of holders, i.e., it represents together with one of the two housings of the internal combustion engine a preassembled structural unit. As a result thereof, the assembly of the camshaft becomes more simple.

Diese Nockenwelle (1) ist in Lagern (2,3,4) angeordnet, die durch einen Zylinderkopf (5) und ein Nockenwellenlagergehäuse (6) gebildet werden. Die Nockenwelle (1) ist mit Haltern (10,16,22) entweder am Zylinderkopf (5) oder am Nockenwellenlagergehäuse (6) befestigt, d.h. sie stellt mit einem der beiden Gehäuse der Brennkraftmaschine eine vormontierte Baueinheit dar. Dadurch ist die Montage der Nockenwelle einfacher.
