[origin: EP0276650A1] In order, on the one hand, to protect the teller against attacks and, on the other hand, to allow small and large articles to be passed across the counter, the counter door has a frame (1) limiting the counter aperture (2). With the door closed, a first rectangular plate (7) closes off the lower part of the counter aperture (2), whilst the upper part is closed off by a second rectangular plate (8). The plates (7, 8) are mounted vertically displaceably on the frame (1). The first plate (7) is displaceable, by a drive arranged in the frame and with self-locking, with its lower longitudinal edge as far as the upper limitation (5) of the counter aperture (2) and back again. The second plate (8) is suspended laterally by means of a respective deflecting roller in a rope loop (24), which rope loops are fastened with one leg to the frame (1) and with the other leg to the first plate (7). There are means which prevent the second plate (7) from being lifted off from the rope loops. <IMAGE>
