[origin: US4839066A] Detergent composition containing conventional surfactants and builders, a fabric-softening silicate of the smectite type, and a synthetic incrustation-inhibiting layer silicate having a smectite-like crystal phase and reduced swelling power in water by comparison with natural smectite. The composition provides a significant increase in the softening effect of the detergent on a fabric washed therewith.
