[origin: EP0278019A1] 1. A hand planer with a substantially cylindrical planing tool located in the machine housing and fixed to a motor driven shaft extending at right angles to the direction of planing, said planing tool having, on the adjacent side of the housing, an outward-pointing end face covered by a swivel hood capable of swinging upwards and attached to the housing, characterized in that the swivel hood (26) is, in its upswung position, axially movable towards the centre of the housing by at least the extent to which it protrudes from the side face (25) of the housing.
