[origin: EP0279008A1] A method for producing a core yarn where a first yarn component is withdrawn overhead from a rotating bobbin on a hollow spindle and is brought together, at a combining point which lies in the extension of the bobbin axis, with a second yarn component which is fed axially through the hollow spindle is characterised in that the first yarn component is a spin-twisted staple fibre yarn whose spin twist is detwisted depending on the direction of rotation of the bobbin, and in that the second yarn component is preferably an essentially twistless yarn, preferably a filament yarn. A device for preventing the detwisting of the staple fibre yarn, attached concentrically to the hollow axis, prevents the first, staple fibre yarn from prematurely losing its strength. The untwisting process is limited to a zone which lies just below the point where the two yarn components are combined, and extends over less than a staple length of the staple fibre yarn. This produces a high-bulk core yarn which has good textile characteristics and is suitable for use as a pile yarn in carpet or floor covering manufacture.
