[origin: EP0279144A2] A safety brake for a driven shaft, with brake disc and cam plate for a running roller which can be pressed thereon by a tripping spring and has a pawl engaging during excessive speed. So that this safety brake can be designed in such a way that it can respond for both directions of rotation, it is proposed that two toothed rings (5) with opposed blocking action of the teeth (5a) as well as a basic body (16) with a pawl bolt (12) for opposite pawls (11) be arranged on the shaft (1). An unlocking pin (20) and a locking bolt (21) are mounted in the basic body (16) for the simultaneous engagement and release of the pawls (11). <IMAGE>
