In known circuit breakers for fault current protection, a great deal of space is taken up by the arrangement of the switching contacts on the base plate and their operation by means of a switching slide provided with bridging contacts. The transmission elements of the switchgear required for operating the switching slide result in an increased force being required to release the switch lock, because of the friction forces occurring in this case. By means of the design with contacts 36, 37 arranged side-by-side, the space requirement for the circuit breaker for fault current protection is reduced. A newly designed switchgear with a support 14 on the latching lever 10 for a supporting lever 12 reduces the forces required for release; in addition, a switching cam 47 prevents overloading of the test current circuit provided for testing the release function. The new type of circuit breaker for fault current protection is advantageously suitable for use in domestic meter installations. <IMAGE>

Bei bekannten Fehlerstromschutzschaltern wird aufgrund der Anordnung der Schaltkontakte auf der Bodenplatte und ihrer Betätigung mittels eines mit Brückenkontakten versehenen Schaltschiebers viel Raum beansprucht. Durch die für die Betätigung des Schaltschiebers erforderliche Übertragungselemente des Schaltwerks entsteht infolge der hierbei auftretenden Reibungskräfte ein erhöhter Kraftbedarf für die Auslösung des Schaltschlosses. Durch die Ausgestaltung mit nebeneinander angeordneten Kontakten 36, 37 wird der Raumbedarf für den Fehlerstromschutzschalter verringert. Ein neuartig gestaltetes Schaltwerk mit einer Abstützung 14 am Klinkenhebel 10 für einen Traghebel 12 reduziert die zur Auslösung erforderlichen Kräfte: zusätzlich verhindert ein Schaltnocken 47 die Überlastung des zur Prüfung der Auslösefunktion vorgesehenen Prüfstromkreises. Der neuartige Fehlerstromschutzschalter eignet sich vorteilhaft zum Einsatz in Zählerplätzen von Hausinstallationen.
