Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0280791A1] A header for an agricultural machine is provided and which comprises, a cutterbar (1), an auger (3) and a rotatable reel (4). The reel (4) has a main shaft (5) defining a rotational main axis (83) around which, in use, it is rotated in one direction (89). Crop-engaging members (6, 7) rotatably are mounted on the reel (4) around respective further axes (84) disposed around the main shaft (5). Inclination control means (86) including steering means (87) positioned eccentrically of the main axis (83) are operable, during rotation of the reel (4) in said one direction (89) , to rotate the crop-engaging members (6, 7) around the respective further axes (84) in the opposite direction (90) so as to maintain the crop-engaging members (6, 7) at a fixed positional inclination relative to the horizontal whereby the free ends of the crop-engaging members (6, 7) define a circularly shaped locus. Drive means (34) are associated with the steering means (87) for oscillating said steering means (87) during rotation of the reel (4) whereby the crop-engaging members (6, 7) equally are oscillated back-and-forth around their respective further pivot axes (84) on the reel (4) and the locus (63) of the free ends of the crop-engaging members (6, 7) deviates from said circular shape. Means (101) are provided for neutralizing said drive means (34) associated with the steering means (87) so that the reel (4) may be operated with either a circular or a non-circular locus (62, respectively 63).
