Fitting for a window, a door or the like with a vertical operating bar (13) covered by means of a cover rail (14) having a locking element (15, 16) of a bar outward locking arrangement fitted, at least, at one of its ends, whereby the cover rail (14) is bent at right angles or bent over (28), at its free end, and is provided in the end area with a rectangular opening (27), through which passes the locking element (15, 16) or a connection element of the latter with the operating bar (13), whereby, in addition, the width of the opening (27) corresponds approximately to the width of the operating bar end piece or locking element (15, 16), characterised in that the operating bar (13) is cranked in the end area and in that two protrusions, tongues (30) or the like on the longitudinal sides of the opening (27) and pointing in opposite directions, are provided which are situated essentially in the plane of the operating bar, whereby the width of the operating bar (13) in the area of the crank is reduced to approximately the distance of the two tongues (30) or the like.
