Abstract (en)
[origin: WO8801547A1] A process and device for producing pipes or similar elongated profiles by powder metallurgy. A thin-walled sheath is filled with a metal and/or metal-alloy powder, if necessary after the powder has been pre-compressed by vibration or a similar process. The thin-walled sheath is then closed and cold- and/or warm-pressed by all-round isostatic pressure and the compact produced is further treated, especially by extrusion. To form a tubular compact, the sheath filled with powder (3) is centrally holed (bore 26) by a spike (4, 5) at the same time as the powder (3) is radially pressed from the inside to the outside, after the sheath has been closed (lid 9; 9'; 9'') and subjected to isostatic pressure. The sheath is composed of a cylindrical outer casing (8), a bottom part (14) and a lid (9; 9'; 9'').
