[origin: EP0282851A1] The barrier has a swing-down, stirrup-like blocking element (11, 12, 13) on which a supporting strut (17) consisting of two telescope tubes (20, 21) is articulated; in the erected blocking position, the two telescope tubes are locked against mutual displacement. The telescopic supporting strut (17) can be extended and retracted with the aid of an electric motor (25), a chain (29), which rotates by means of a driving gearwheel (26) and a deflection roller (28), forming the gear connection between the outer tube (20) and the inner tube (21); the drive and gear connection are arranged inside the supporting strut. A spring-loaded locking element (47, 37) is brought into disengagement either by a lock (24) or by the said gear connection, preferably during starting of the motor (25). <IMAGE>
