Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0284316A2] A transportation system comprises a track (11) and vehicles (10) adapted to travel along the track while cantilever supported from it (19,25,27), the track including at least one junction where the vehicle can follow one of a number of alternative routes. The track includes, at the junction, a flat horizontal surface (34) and the vehicle has bottom support wheels (19,20,21,22) which may run on the flat surface and support the weight of the vehicle while the cantilever support (19,25,27) is temporarily disengaged. Guideways (37,38) are recessed in the flat surface (34) and define alternative routes across the junction, and followers (42,43) on the vehicle are selectively engageable with the recessed guideways according to the route which the vehicle is required to follow across the junction.
