[origin: EP0284496A1] Radial oil seal, having a reinforcement, a body, in particular of an elastomer, and a sealing lip of a low frictional material, in particular a fluorocarbon resin, such as in particular polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), bonded to said body and projecting radially therefrom. The side of said lip exposed to the air has orientation grooves in the form of notches. There are in the sealing lip (9) a plurality of notches (12) each in the form of a segment of the spiral, said notches being identical, circumferentially equidistant and extending within a ring-shaped area bounded by concentric circles which constitute the geometrical loci of the inward and outward ends respectively of the notches (12), the innermost circle being set back from the inner perimeter (13) of the lip. <IMAGE>
