Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0284903A2] A piston press (10) comprises a ram (17), which is connected to a piston (16) running in a cylinder (15). Compressed air can be admitted to the cylinder (15) via valves (42, 45). In order to be able to carry out pressing operations with a controlled displacement/time characteristic and to provide an operational piston press which does not require a high outlay in terms of installation, the ram (17) interacts with a displacement-measuring system (18). An output signal (s) of the displacement-measuring system (18) is compared with predetermined set point values (S0, S1, S2, S3) in a controller (37). The controller (37) controls electropneumatic servo valves (42, 45) for admitting pressure to the cylinder (15) according to a predetermined displacement/time characteristic (s(t)) (Fig.1). <IMAGE>
